Have you ever looked at the time and saw that it was exactly 11:11, closed your eyes, and made a wish? My common wishes include: an end to world hunger, universal peace, or a near glutinous display of pastries and gelato. This new, innovative coffee shop finally made one of these dreams come true, and I will leave that up to you to guess which one.

11:11 Coquetry Maison is found on South Emporia Avenue, nestled into the heart of downtown Wichita, where graffiti on buildings look aesthetic, not concerning. They opened in March 2026, with a goal of bringing an artisan flair and unique menu items to the community.

Immediately, it was clear that Coquetry Maison is unlike any other coffee shop around this city. Lights and plants hang down from the ceiling, along with chandeliers and light fixtures. Not to mention a huge cabinet that was filled with colorful pastries, such as pistachio baklava, and the wide assortment of gelato flavors, featuring ube (purple yam), strawberry cheesecake and mango. After making some hard decisions while ordering, it was time to sit down on a velvety, green couch and enjoy these unique items.

My first bite of the salted caramel gelato was a moment of pure bliss for this self-proclaimed ice cream connoisseur. The creamy, smooth and salty treat, featuring chunks of caramel, made me excited for every bite. As for the size, it proved to be the perfect amount; however, it does cost $7, while I would happily buy again, shoppers should be prepared to pay the price for this high quality cup of gelato.

Next, I ordered two enticing drinks: the strawberry coconut matcha and tiramisu latte, both for $8. The drinks were surprisingly more rich than sweet without an overwhelmingly bold flavor. Instead, the strawberry coconut matcha was more of a smooth, subtle taste. The variety of flavors were all recognizable in every sip, but the earthy matcha left a strong aftertaste. Although it was an interesting flavor profile, I wish the sweet strawberry taste was stronger to balance the bitterness of the matcha. I know Earth Day was recent, but we do not have to drink it.

Furthermore, the tiramisu latte is a perfect homage to the dessert, known for its blend of rich espresso and subtly sweet filling, which is replicated in the drink. The actual coffee is unsweetened and milky, while the sweet cream on top is airy and balances the strong espresso taste. Finally, the cocoa dust on top perfects the tiramisu flavor, and you are left with the sweet, yet bitter aftertaste. Compared to a traditional, drive-thru coffee shop, this drink is less sugary and more bitter, so if you prefer creamer with a splash of espresso, no judgment here, but this might not be the drink for you.

Finally, I dove into my final item, the chocolate croissant. There is one pro tip that can turn an average pastry into a life-changing experience: ask an employee to warm it up for you. While it tasted like a quality pastry, the chocolate was hard and the crust seemed slightly stale. Trust me, if warmed, the buttery inside, flakey dough, and dark, gooey chocolate would come to life.

Overall, this sweet treat destination was fun to visit for the interesting interior, unique flavors, and variety of sweet treat options. However, I recommend using my pro tip and warming the pastries. Also, the matcha was not flavored enough to balance the strong earth taste, so I will save my money for a cup of sweet, salty gelato. Still, next time I look at the clock and see 11:11, I will be wishing for a sweet treat.
