Opportunities Abound: We Should Strive for Holiness
A staff editorial is the opinion of the Kapaun Mt. Carmel Paladin newsmagazine staff. The intent is to state an opinion related to a news story and make a suggestion for change or compliment something.
Throughout a student’s four years of high school, so many things change in their lives – their friends, interests, hobbies and more. At KMC, we not only receive help to grow academically and socially over the years, but also spiritually. The guidance and support we receive at school helps to bring about a shift in our faith by senior year. We should accept this help and prioritize a relationship with God.
This year, there are 31 peer ministers and two new campus ministers, Elise Pugh and Cade Halling. This group leads retreats and events, such as Kairos retreats and the yearly Campus Ministry Trivia Night. Additionally, they serve as role models, inviting their peers to follow God.
In order to be good evangelists, one must first better themselves and strengthen their own faith. Rev. Seth Arnold related this to the 12 apostles. To continue growing their own faith, the peer ministers consistently spend time in prayer themselves and hold each other accountable. Even over the summer, they met for book study groups and went on a retreat.
Senior peer minister Lael Wetta explained that the goal of being a peer minister is to bring people in, so that people are always joining in worship. These events are held in hopes that more students attend each time and continue to come. We should take advantage of these opportunities that we receive.
Witnessing these classmates of ours spend time in the chapel during every lunch, show up early for daily Mass and simply exhibit kindness to others, we see the qualities we should strive for and how these peer ministers offer up themselves to help others. They dedicate so much of their time to the Lord and to their peers, showing great care for their faith and those around them. Influenced by these seniors who put God first and joyfully share their faith, other students aspire to be more like them and grow as Catholics themselves.
As Catholics, our goal in life should be to help others get to Heaven and to get there ourselves. We should follow the examples of those around us, such as peer ministers and campus ministers, and strive for holiness. We must accept the support of others to follow God and choose Him every day.
